Loss

Allow me a moment to reflect on sorrow. That overwhelming wave that floods your being and drowns out all other sensation but the pulsating pain lancing even the hidden little pockets of sadness in the recesses of your being, gathering grief that is sent crashing onto the shore of your consciousness. Or the constant, dull ache, like your own torturous elevator music relentlessly manifesting as the background to your day. The melodramatic, if it wasn't happening to you. It's there behind the smile, the strut, the stance. Which is why we glance, and 'How are you?' is a greeting. But our sadness is as important as our joy. Our laughter is made richer when we are honest with our tears. I have come to understand about sorrow that it doesn't get better with time. Rather, we become better at dealing with it. We learn, we grow, we mature. We live with loss. We bear the unbearable. We get to know ourselves. I have no power to withhold life's trials from you, but I can wish you, in facing them, courage SALUT!
