PANG (cont.) There Where rules need And rude hunger Storms of grief Lightnings and thunders The inability to undo fact No thought, no invocation Not an act Nothing can change These words of dread ‘He is dead'
He is dead
*
Now he is a widow’s sorrow
Missing the children’s tomorrow
How a parent
Buries a child
Grief as if
Uniquely styled
Bury him, then
But surely know
It is but the body
Not the legacy of our hero
*
Because, he said
Offering bread
My beautiful story
Led me to the glory
And an enlightened understanding of my faith
And what it of me was demanding
Also what moves me in my quiet hour
The purposeful calling
Of a higher power
*
They came to look
Who was mistook
They came to stare
Mutely frozen with fright
As with a shepherd
Suddenly called to rest
Or a leader amongst
Clutching a constricted chest
Come see for themselves
What they refuse to comprehend
This loss
A loss that feels like an end
*
Ever a student of life’s why
And the urge to offer a reply
Ever looking to upgrade the moment
Brightening the heart’s dull lament
Uplift the fallen, the vulnerable
Feeding and healing indivisible
And reaching past the handcuffs’ clasp
Also the condemned and the miserable
*
A people need loving
A people too need care
People need to know they matter
For no other reason than they are there
A people need leading
Reminded, prodded and needling
When imperfection as perception star
The key is to remember who you are
*
He spoke not legacy
Or reputation or his due
Only what could be achieved
With sincere follow-through
He fed -and fed, thousands
And more
Those forgotten and neglected
Where the suspected
Failed reality detected
And what no-one could deny
It seemed what he was born for
*
This loss, so huge
It would reply confuse
And as the grieving wept
And prayed on that peopled street
The blessed thought went round
That laced the sad with sweet
While we sorrow here on the ground
He’d already in heaven joy found
