Peace And Understanding

At this time when there is much clamouring for the 'peace that knows no understanding' I'm a bit head-in-hand with the 'understanding that knows no peace'. I was watching this movie where one of the characters proclaim 'You are either apathetic or you're an activist'. Truth is, there is no un-knowing the wrong, no wishing away the lack, no squaring up the unfair that doesn't require commitment and concerted effort from whoever hopes to effect positive change in that scenario. The season brings with it a heightened sense of urgency about resolution, reconciliation and redress - stay aware that the pressures and deadlines are man-made. That these social constructs and their dictates are markers on your journey, not the journey itself. That you are fallible, malleable, human. And that the reach for the finer aspects of living, the striving towards an expression of the nobler condition, the evolution to a better you is an ongoing process, and that the seasonal, intensified demand for results can often hinder more than it helps. That true mindful, meaningful, motivated living knows no season, and that the striving is to make it so. After a weekend of wallowing in the kaleidoscopic lekker of the klopse, I'm again fortified in the knowing that lack doesn't define you, that experience bolsters you, and that the silver lining to all the modern examples of the poverty of the human spirit, is that it is still there - the human spirit - without fanfare or blue-light brigade manifesting, no, flourishing, ready to bloom when cognizance of its necessity takes hold. Here's to rushing that cognizance. I've always loved the hymn 'Hark, The Herald Angels Sing'. I like the idea of the angels calling humanity to attention. I like to think that if we all looked to ourselves more, examined our own living more, challenged our existing beliefs and attitudes more, it will bring us closer to the more. Certainly also part of the reason for the season And the reminder that concerted challenges can lead you closer to self SP
