The continental human drift never hesitates or pauses
Not for the brutal border, blackmailed law or bad-faith causes
Resuscitate a dead Eldorado to motivate destination
Urging forward from oppression and rank exploitation
Connected in dark knowledge of a recent, shameful past
Where rigged desperation crumbs on roughened seas cast
Whom yearns to live and live to free
Its bludgeoned self from systemic spite and tyranny
Ducks and dives the constant sweeping tendrils
Of the xenophobic Hydra rushing about feeding landfills
Scorns the promised wage of each threatened mortal due
To darken too the narrative hue about struggling to live true
Finds the play one of cold comfort, turned and othered
Privilege hardened, entitlement mothered, reach smothered
By those who first came for succour and in need, looking for
Founded a moratorium on who should, like them, deserve more
Seek further to rule with division, and injustice perpetrate
Evidenced in yesterday’s curse, proven best to inculcate
The barren, selfish choice, the missed opportunity
The selfish disregard for the humane expression of community
And in answer to the dirge ringing from the downward swell
A rotting, maggot-ridden corpse manifesting an upward smell
Imagined relief from these gold-lined streets, sun-soaked shores
Drowning with all the other fatalities of this diasporic recourse
