THE RUB
When ascribing to the prevailing hegemony
Compromise of the self is the expectancy
Trumped by the inalienable security
Of constitutional rights in democracy
No judgement of what was shown faulty
The narrative done, the dysfunction history
Solutions now demanded by the once-guilty
As fulcrum still, ever privilege the priority
The left-overs left in perpetual delinquency
For those not afforded ‘my cup of tea’
The truth in all its darkened, horrid reality
Judged by apartheid’s distorted free
The marked, noticeable inability
To see injustice that’s not ‘happening to me’
When all along the reasoning should be
Let it not happen to ANYBODY
But rational and reasonable the attorney
This can’t be a realistic ask for EVERYBODY
Because the haves have no responsibility
To those used to manifest that possibility
In this brave, new world pointed so definitely
Past lived experience and bureaucratic brutality
To deceit and corruption’s dressed-up formality
This statistically-approved, rank, rancid normality
Is the sell, the buy-in, the take-home, essentially
The rub being those who don’t and won’t see
Lacks some of that cognitive ability, unfortunately
The issue being one of predisposition, really
Because where you are, you are so comfortably
Birds only alarmed when someone shakes the tree
