The Homeless People can, people occupying spaces that have stood empty for decades can, and those that the city has moved from its center to it's outskirts can tell - the season of evictions is upon us. You should not care, the city contends, because after all your safety and the security and value of your property, and your continued upholding of 'how things are'/the status quo, that is of optimal importance. Even protest is problematic, whether from a place of desperation or not. So people who are not wanted, are discarded and disregarded, get to play victim to orchestrated, officially-approved attacks on their human dignity and their basic human rights.
So at Bloekombos the evictions have started. Cissie Gool Hospital have brooked two warnings. The Homeless People of District Six are now regularly harassed. Meanwhile Blikkiesdorp smoulders, in Die Gatjie people have been living 'informally' for more than 30 years. Ocean View is to be experienced, Belhar is reeling. Kraaifonfein suffers, Eersterivier too! Take a drive down Delft Main Rd. The City has failed spectacularly in many instances. But they're standing by with their next great solution. And that includes emptying the spaces currently occupied without their permission. And they're not happy with the courts not letting them evict at will
Did I mention Hangberg? I didn't. There's much
