The State Of Things

I find it best not to even start looking for a word or words to describe the state of things right now, my cold comfort that I don't find myself alone on planet 'what the hell is going on?' In all honesty, I do not expect much from government - read whichever or whatever manifestation of it you think refers- or the army-supported police services, doing what they have always done. Business can't but make business the bottom-line. Religion demands faith in law and tradition without feel for flaw and abolition. Community so deprived of opportunity that the sating of the hunger is driven by desperation and fuelled by anger and incongruity. And our responses from our perches of privilege - where we are but threatened by a reality elsewhere manifest - where we demand something be done, awareness campaigns, solidarity drives, drawing attention to cries for help, this measuring of the stark horror that confronts us now without any suggestion of it again blending into the landscape - do they matter when we ask for resolution and solution from those who have proven themselves inept? Do we keep demanding effect and protection from avenues where there has consistently been none? Do we continue to deny the grey and perpetuate our obsession with defining things in black and white? Is our expectation for salvation instant and absolute, or do we understand we find ourselves at the low end climbing up a slippery shute. We cannot escape, that the turning of the worm, the catalyst for change, the banishing of the blight, the prayer against the plight, starts in our hearts, in our homes, round our hearths where the how is expressed and manifest Where what remains undeniably true is what you do. What you and I do. And that includes responding to what we believe is due. And correctly so. The value remains though in the quality, the effectiveness, the impact of the ask. There is your rider - it's not just a response out of crisis demanded, but fashioned with uncushioned insight into how complicit the structures, systems and processes are in keeping us evolutionarily stunted. So filter the bleeding and screaming on these savage shores, disguised with shuttered shelters and barred doors. SP 16092019
