This, That And The Other

This hoping to achieve collectively
What we fail at singly, so mis’rably
Of a common goal, a shared eventuality
In a time of exceptionalism and individuality
Of indulging the blown ego’s fragility
Allowing for a resuscitated rigidity
To create and foment dissent around identity
Parade division as a natural form of humanity
That lone wolf proudly uncompromising
The single mother’s determination realising
The contrite elder’s conviction in proselytising
Of the youthful vigour in rebellious uprising
And not marking space for community
Forsake the need for that essential opportunity
To share an understanding of the incongruity
Of the denial of patterns of perpetuity
Of a rejection of the furrows of fluidity
Pleading a passion for the heralded hereditary
An authenticated lack of accountability
Parading piously as a co-morbidity
The quotes and metaphors in our thinking
Pretence if the barren and the base not shrinking
The constancy even of at the fount drinking
Oblivious to the increase of the waters’ inking
*
Other hearts break like mine, the continuity
Elsewhere also the sun only sometimes shining
More budgets lacking in life-saving annuity
Empty purses and dark clouds the silver lining
Everywhere the betrayal of immunity
The skeleton’s minions feasting at dining
The ironic alone of paradoxical proximity
And a possible future not jinx by divining
